Granite countertops can be a great investment for your home and can make any kitchen or bathroom look great. As with any investment, you want to care for your countertops properly, so they will last a while. Here are a few tips on how to care for your granite countertops.

How to Care for Your Granite Countertops

  • Start with the basics: Many seem to think that you need special cleaners to clean granite countertops, but this isn’t necessarily true. You can clean your countertops with a simple microfiber cloth, warm water, and dish soap. Cleaning products made especially for granite also work well.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: When cleaning your granite countertops, it’s important to avoid harsh chemicals like bleach, ammonia, or glass cleaner. These chemicals can eat away at the seal on your granite.
  • Don’t forget the protective seal: When you have granite countertops installed, they will come with a protective seal. This seal needs to be reapplied every five to ten years to keep your countertops in top condition.
  • Don’t worry about the hot stuff: There seem to be differing opinions from person to person as to whether you can put hot dishes directly on your counters. Granite countertops are made of such a sturdy stone that leaving a hot pan on it for a moment is hardly going to leave a crack.

Granite countertops are a great addition for any kitchen or bathroom and can last for years if you care for them properly. You can give us a call if you’d like to learn more.
